Everyone's favorite reality TV couple are back together. After weeks of rumors and a reported 11th-hour contract signing that nearly derailed the first day of auditions, former "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul will has officially taken her seat beside her ex-"Idol" sparring partner Simon Cowell on his upcoming U.S. version of "The X Factor."
Announced on Sunday evening, the addition of Paula Abdul to the show completes the judging panel, which also includes former music executive Antonio "L.A." Reid and British singer and U.K. "X Factor" judge Cheryl Cole.
According to reports, Cowell was prepared to pull the plug on Sunday's auditions when Paula Abdul didn't sign her contract until just before taking the stage.
"I am excited beyond words to be a part of the 'X Factor.' I couldn't be happier to bring my love for cultivating talent and performance to such a wildly anticipated show," said Paula Abdul in the announcement. "[I] know that it will be an extraordinary journey — we're going to have a blast. I'm also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again ... but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!"
Open auditions for the show will continue in Dallas on May 26. Unlike other reality singing competitions, contestants on "X Factor" sing in front of an audience of thousands as well as the four judges in their first audition.
Though Cowell told the audience that they would serve as the "fifth judge" and be relied on to help decide who will get the $5 million grand prize, The Hollywood Reporter said the crowd apparently was taking that advice too far and had to be asked by producers to boo the singers less as a way to "temper negativity on the show."
The program also revealed its co-hosts over the weekend, former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and British TV personality Steve Jones. Though her solo singing career has struggled to take off, Scherzinger has found success as a guest judge on the U.K. version of "The X Factor."
Scherzinger, too, said she was excited to be on the Stateside version of the program, which is slated to launch in the fall. "I am thrilled to be asked by Simon Cowell to host 'The X Factor'," said the singer, who also is a one-time "Dancing With the Stars" winner. "I loved working alongside Simon on the U.K. show, and cannot wait to see what he has in store for the U.S. I'm so excited to work with Steve Jones and help discover astounding talent from across the country!(S)

Lady Gaga Triumphs At Madison Square Garden In Hbo Concert Special
0 comments Posted by galery at 7:14 AMLady Gaga has highlighted why she is still a force to be reckoned with, after appearing in a Hbo special covering her recent Monster Ball Tour show in New York's Madison Square Garden (2 February 2011). However, this didn't stop Lady Gaga from feeling like a 'loser' backstage.
Pulling no punches, Gaga appeared in an array of costume changes, dazzling sets and committing even more quirky behaviour as usual. Energised by her hometown crowd, she gave the screaming crowd a simple piece of advice: 'even when 'they' turn its back on you, you always have yourself.' However, the backstage footage seemed to show an alternate reality, as Lady Gaga was seen wiping tears from her eyes, talking about wanting to win for her fans: "I just sometimes feel like a loser, still. I have to tell myself I'm a superstar every morning. I cannot be destroyed, I will not be destroyed, and you can never destroy the kingdom that is my fans.' The Hbo special is planned to be shown on Sky1 later this month.
Lady Gaga has recently finished her Monster Ball Tour, set to possibly be the highest-grossing tour of all time. Her new album, Born this Way, is due for release 23 May 2011. (S)

The Lonely Island are best known now for their hilarious Digital Shorts on "Saturday Night Live" — if you’ve ever put your rude bits in a box, thank them — but they’ve been kicking around for almost a decade, delivering a goofy parody of “The O.C.” called “The ‘Bu,” and rapping about debilitating isolation in “Just 2 Guyz." On Tuesday, May 10, they release Turtleneck & Chain, their second disc of silly, beats-driven raps.
The comedy trio -- Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone — will mark the record’s release on Monday at 8 p.m. with a discussion at the Soho Apple Store. The talk will be moderated by Aziz Ansari of "Parks and Recreation." Admission is free, but the event will surely spill over in a hurry, so arrive very early (and with Susan Sarandon or Rihanna, if at all possible).
Also, the New York Times’ Arts Beat blog features an excellent interview with the Lonely Island today, including their thoughts on Turtleneck & Chain guest Michael Bolton, West Coast recreational drugs, and their hypnotic beats. It’s worth reading for the shout out to producer T-Minus. (S)

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have made so few musical missteps in their respective superstar careers, chances are they haven't heard the stinging sound of boos in a long, long time. But last night at the Costume Institute's "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the couple got a verbal smackdown from piqued paparazzi who were angry the pair didn't pause longer for photographs.
New York magazine's fashion blog the Cut was the first to report Beyoncé Boogate, tweeting from the red carpet, "OMG Beyonce and Jay-Z are being BOOED at the #MetGala for not posing for pictures! Yes, boo!" The site's correspondent quickly explained, "Beyonce's Pucci dress was so tight she could barely walk up the stairs as she failed to stop for the photographers."
Camera-phone footage confirms B struggled to take even a few steps in her slinky black-and-gold gown -- she even required assistance from Jay-Z and another fella for the walk up the stairs -- which is a little ironic since she just released a fitness song called "Move Your Body."
Keep in mind, these were pushy photogs rather than persnickety music critics showering the duo in boos -- nobody yelled, "Where's Watch the Throne?" or "Why'd you sample Major Lazer?" at the pair -- but the effect was pretty harsh. Hopefully Beyoncé and Jay returned to their TriBeCa pad right next to De Niro and blasted Of Montreal's "Suffer for Fashion."
The dress itself wasn't exempt from some virtual booing, either: The Prophet blog described the garish, fishtail frock as a "vinyl dress that looked like a Tina Knowles Dereon special straight off the rack at Sears."(S)

When will.i.am hit the studio with Britney Spears for her Femme Fatale track "Big Fat Bass," the producer and Black Eyed Peas frontman said the singer was completely engrossed in the recording process.
"[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic," will recalled to MTV News. "She was like a little kid when she was recording the song and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her."
Spears expressed a similar sentiment about recording her chart-topping album during her recent "I Am the Femme Fatale" MTV special, which featured a cameo by will.i.am, who was finishing up the party track at the time.
"When you're in the studio, you're just really focused, you're really in your head and in your ears and on the notes," she explains in the show. "And when you're performing, it's more a connection on the outside and more of — like a tiger and more in your body."
Both Brit and will are now industry vets so the BEP singer said he didn't have much advice for the star.
"When someone's excited to go out and just do it, what advice? You don't need no advice. She's just turned on right now. She is [like], 'I like this part right here.' When I say [on the song], 'You all better get ready for the kick drum,' she was already anticipating what she was going to do onstage when that beat broke down," he explained. "Adding that type of perspective ... when we we're recording it, you don't need to give nobody [like Britney] advice." [Source]
