Shorts are definitely sticking around this fall –and not just because NYC is having the warmest fall on record. Because if they're black and paired with heels they can substitute for the lbd as LA girls probably always knew. On this coast though I would recommend pairing with tights or knee high boots.

I took this photo without this girl knowing...I don't normally do that but she was on the far subway platform and she really caught my eye – but then happened to have her eyes closed when I took the shot. I know it's not the most unique style, but I like it.

These boys are undeniably attractive so who could blame you if your head swiveled when they walk by? Which is another reason their jackets are so clever – they keep you looking! The jacket on top was designed by the boy wearing it (whose name I sadly don't have - but I shot him backstage at the Malan Breton show). On bottom we have choreographer Jermaine Browne and his very clever jacket of the Queen made of buttons is by a very clever label called Social Suicide.

When I review all the photos I take during fashion week of the attendees I can't help but see trends emerging. Here we have feminine tops paired with high-waisted black shorts. One with black heels and the other with men's style lace ups. It's a fresh and pretty look that is also neat without being too ladylike IMO.

I realize that there is no way I can cover everything I do in a given day during this period on here. (although today was a slow day and I am still up at 3:15 writing this post!) So I'm going to pick a favorite day and favorite night look. Jessica is my pick for day and because I love you I even found out what she's wearing (it is fashion week after all!) The blouse and shorts are Fremont, the shoes - which I openly covet–are from Barney's and her sunglass are Dolce & Gabbana.
The night look is equally fantastic but sadly I didn't get her information! And lastly, and admittedly somewhat randomly, I'd like to introduce you to Richard "totally cool" Renda who –if you've ever been to the tents– you may have seen around. I don't know what his official title is but he is the photographer in charge of the pit and I like to think of him as the Ringmaster of the offstage circus...okay it's time to go to bed to get up and do it again!

I lovelovelove her red frames. They're really fun and unexpected. The rest of the outfit, while cute, is typical hipster. BUT the other saving grace is how she is (accidentally?) color coordinated with the tattoo of Flower, the skunk from "the classic that sent many children into therapy at the thought of the death of their mother", Bambi. If you are a sad soul who hasn't seen it I suggest renting or streaming it asap!

With their pouty poses these girls look like the school Queen Bees. But that's just for the camera. In reality they were nice as could be. So what's working here? Beige lace motorcycle jacket and dress (not together) the pink hued hair and off the shoulder top all look great without looking like they're trying too hard. Because they're so not!

I think this girl is totally adorable. I love the high waisted shorts and how she chose to wear no jewelry. ...and how she is totally oblivious to how he seemed to have a spill...

Sometimes you don't know why you like a particular look. You just do...these guys are just wearing shorts and t-shirts but I love that the one in the center is wearing a Polo/Ralph Lauren shirt and has it buttoned all the way up and the guy on the right has a great amused expression!

There is something about her look that seems like she came straight from Central Casting for a John Hughes film...which would make him the requisite alterna-boy?

I like the layering of the jacket that looks like a tuxedo jacket converted into a cape and the tiny hat/large hairpiece. I even like the tights that matched the sky when the picture was taken, but i'm not convinced by the stirrups...maybe cut at the ankle would have been better...but i have never been a fan of stirrup tights or pants...

If I said I was posting a photo of a girl in a white tee and black shorts you'd probably think I'd lost it...but if you saw it: the sheerness of the tee, the short hair and quirky hat, the tattoo on the leg and the Chanel flats you'd know why...so now you know.

I love the insanity of wearing a tatty fur coat in the middle of a heat wave in Manhattan. And paired with shorts and skinned knees the whole ensemble is a bit "little boy blue". Geoffrey you are too adorable...

I don't know what's with me as of late that I feel compelled to show 2 examples in a row. Maybe because when I'm sorting through photos I start to see the trends after first pointing them out. At any rate this is the second of two photos showing the suspender trend. (and I have a third, but don't worry –I'm moving on) They have a totally different look than the girls in the other photo: kinda Germanic. kinda butch dyke. kinda looking at the camera like "we're being polite but don't consider ourselves fashionistas". But their attention to details says otherwise: the great old shoes that look like they could have been bought at a thrift store or at Atelier, the shirt deliberately buttoned to the top on a ferociously hot day and the insouciance of no makeup except bright red lipstick all say we do give a damn about how we look–just in our own way...and that is the essence of style...

These girls are kind of working a '90s grunge vibe which isn't necessarily a bad thing. What I'm looking at here though is the suspenders. When I was in Madrid recently I saw an amazing pair of acid green cotton pants with suspenders. I tried them on in the store and while they were very "Y-3" they weren't enough "me" to justify buying them. If I had though, I know I'd keep at least one - if not both - of the suspenders down...but these aren't the only times I've seen suspenders so, like the overalls, I wonder if these are just blips on the screen or retro revivals?

In reaction to the recent discussion that ladylike style is coming in I'm posting this as my compromise position: she is not completely "lady like" ala something like Mad Men, but it's an elegant way to wear leather shorts.

All the cool kids came out on the hottest day of the year to swill champagne like swells at the new Forever 21 store in Times Square. The bastion of trendy clothes at killer prices is now in the heart of the city. So it begs the question as to whether this gal's abbreviated outfit is intentionally/ironically or accidentally channeling someone south of the Mason-Dixon line...

Continuing with my hat obsession: the floppy hat. The gold scarf on it is a little bright for me, but what I do love here is the tone-on-tone tights and the shoes. Nice.

This is Ano and Monica and I took their pictures over the weekend when NYC was sweltering in nonstop humidity. And still they managed to have style while staying cool...and did you notice they're both wearing hats? OMG I am obsessed!

When the "onesie" became popular last summer I was absolutely against it. First of all, the name is infantile. Secondly many of these short jumpsuits were frankly heinous. But in hot weather you want something simple and this one really works. I'm also loving, yes, the hat! I so want to get some new straw hats!
