Oh, I've left out the boy! I don't have much to say about him: attractive, tasteful...maybe not brown shoes?

I fell in love with his blazer that he made himself and his dandified style in general.

This girl caught my attention during fashion week because the friend that she was with was literally having a hissy fit at a guard who wouldn't let them into the tents without an invite. They had been invited and they did eventually get in but the guy was just doing his job. Anyways, despite all that I snapped her photo because she looked like an authentic New Yorker by-way-of Los Angeles. (and no I can't exactly explain what's meant by that but I know you know what I'm talking about!) And she strikes me as the type of girl who gets into alot of trouble –but of the good storytelling variety.

Hemlines dropped precipitously in the Spring collections which I personally find less than thrilling. Since I'm barely 5'4" on a good day I tend to like skirts a bit shorter. However if I looked this chic in a long skirt I might be persuaded...

When I was in Madrid this summer I was interviewed by the style section of a local newspaper and the headline was something about how I couldn't believe people there didn't wear more hats considering the wicked heat. While that wasn't the most important thing I said I still stand by my belief that hats should be more part of our summer wardrobe. This boy knows what I'm talking about! -His shoes are pretty great too!

So in some kind of ironic twist of fate, news came out today that Madonna has been sued for using "Material Girl" for her first line for Macy's. Apparently some other brand Trademarked that in 97. You would think association would win out – Madonna really did brand "Material Girl" way before '97. On the other hand, her (IMAO) choice of Taylor Momsen as the spokesgirl for her line leaves little to be desired and this might be her own karmic retribution...if she was looking for a Material BOY however, I think he's right here.

Although I have put floral prints on the blog before I have also openly admitted that for the most part I am not a fan. This dress, on this girl is an exception! The color palette is grown up instead of girly and I love the bold size of these flowers. It works on her because she happens to be a model so has the height and frame to carry it off. (I, on the other hand, would look like I was hiding behind Auntie's drapes if I tried it!) I also love the gold filigree jewelry. The hat and gloves might be a bit theatrical but she is out at night in New York...

I had a shite day so I'm keeping this brief. Love these girls –especially the hat, clutch and shoes of the one on the right!

Sometimes you don't know why you like a particular look. You just do...these guys are just wearing shorts and t-shirts but I love that the one in the center is wearing a Polo/Ralph Lauren shirt and has it buttoned all the way up and the guy on the right has a great amused expression!

Is there such a thing as overkill? Would these two qualify? Not even sure this is for real or costumes and either way I can go with it until his shoes...I think with the attention to detail everywhere else they feel like after thoughts. Might we suggest a lovely pair of spectator shoes?

I like the layering of the jacket that looks like a tuxedo jacket converted into a cape and the tiny hat/large hairpiece. I even like the tights that matched the sky when the picture was taken, but i'm not convinced by the stirrups...maybe cut at the ankle would have been better...but i have never been a fan of stirrup tights or pants...

If I said I was posting a photo of a girl in a white tee and black shorts you'd probably think I'd lost it...but if you saw it: the sheerness of the tee, the short hair and quirky hat, the tattoo on the leg and the Chanel flats you'd know why...so now you know.

I saw this girl in Chelsea and she seemed like a modern take on old school glamour with her well defined eyes, delicate features and the turban she was wearing. Turbans are associated with old Hollywood stars and were also recently seen on the runway in the Lanvin Resort 2011 collection by Alber Elbaz and in a more headband form at the Yves Saint Laurent Resort 2011 collection by Stefano Pilati. To be successfully chic you need to keep everything else clean and simple: see above or below!

I thought Harem pants were just a blip last spring because for the most part I haven't seen them much around the city. And while this is true in New York that is certainly not the case in Madrid where they are everywhere: in all colors and patterns possible. But I never thought I'd see them in denim! You know that a garment has become mainstream when they start making denim versions of it. So between her jeans, the skull on her hat hand her sandals this girl captures to me the more "street" side of Madrid street style. (and yes, I know this blog is about NYC...I'll be back there tomorrow!) But what has been fascinating for me on this brief visit to Madrid is how even with the internet there is a clear difference in sensibility between street style here and in NYC. This is not true of say London, which although it has it's own looks shares a sensibility with New York. I'm guessing it has to do in part with climate because this continues to have the California vibe I picked up on earlier. I'll have to check with friends in SoCal if they agree with this...or my new madrileÑos friends. Did I say that right?!?? (although the N probably isn't in caps? I cut and paste from the comment as I don't know how to add the accent on my keyboard!)

These 2 were seen last weekend at the Brooklyn loft party Vacation. It went until 5 am which was not a bad idea if you were able to sleep away the next day. (like I did!) I love the acid wash tie dye treatment on her jacket and the cropped proportions. And these 2 are just adorable in general!
Well I'm leaving for Madrid today where I'll be partying with J&B Whiskey at a special event they're having. So hopefully my next few photos will be of some Madrilenos! Another city that regularly stays up until 5 or 6 am, I've heard. If you have any suggestions where to go, contact me!

Who knew there was a group for Gay NYC bloggers? Gotta support fellow bloggers!
On a sick hot day there was a full on celebration at the parade. You can see all the crazy costumes online. I just wanted to post some kids who are "out" and about!
p.s. a note to all my gurlfriends: YOU are always on this blog so this time I wanted the baby dykes represented! ;)
